Lockup Lockdown

42 days? Britain already allowed for the police to lock people up without charge for 28 days, far longer than in any other comparable nation and far longer than they have ever come close to using. Last night’s Commons vote on extending that period was certainly part of the government’s campaign to strike fear into the hearts of Muslims and would-be dissenters, but even more than that it was an attempt to discipline Labour MPs.
