The invasion of Iraq was met with the largest protests the offending nations had seen for decades, if ever – 2 million people in London, 4 million people in Rome. In contrast, the regime of sanctions and sporadic bombing that came between the two Gulf wars, which is estimated to have killed around half a million Iraqi children over the course of a decade, which prompted two consecutive UN administrators to resign in protest at what they called “genocide” was barely even noticed over here. None of our boys were dying, I guess.
We cannot allow the devastating seige in Gaza to go on for a decade.
I don’t have time to really get into the seige now – Lenin has a good post on the subject as does The Heathlander, and there’s more shocking revelations at People’s Geography – but I thought I should point out that this Saturday has been declared an International Day of Action against the Seige, and there will be demos arranged (hopefully) across the world. The UK demo is in front of Parliament from 4pm ’til 6pm. Contact your local branch of Action Palestine for transport to the Smoke.
