    Niicee!

Of course, when the gestapo comes knocking at your door, you might want that vote back!

    Thanks for the HT, Dave.

Was hear yesterday typing an opus in another post and bored myself to sleep so I decided not to push Go. Sometimes you throw something at the wall and nothing sticks, eh?

I love Aussie humor and the Aussies who come with it. The excent has got just enough of that British upper crust twang to fool the American ear, and I always fall for the rubber crutch bit every time I see it. I thought this was serious for the few minutes. But I’m an American, so I’m dipped in extra gullible special sauce.

    :D

Oh I knew it was aussie, which made it extra cool.

That is fantastic. Great content and very professionally done. Does anyone know who was behind that?

    Me!

Hey sorry to link spam your comments, Dave, but I think your readers will find this story very interesting.

Check out Benjamin Heine’s latest journal on Palestine peace activist Anna Baltzer.

    Word!

No worries, ressentiment, I have a policy of merging consecutive comments from the same person. No spam, no censorship – the joys of admin.

As far as I can tell, fascists in the West tend to be either semi-literate working class thugs, or else bourgeois pseudo-intellectuals who are careful to avoid the f-word. That made me suspect a piss-take from the start. It’s still good though.

Too bad I missed out on your comment, but it’s a pain I know all too well. Even worse are those blogs that tell you – after you’ve given epic-length feedback – that comments are for registered users only.

    They can’t even say “struth”.
IMO that line alone is priceless!

    it is good.

if anything, they could have kept it up for a bit longer…

it’s funny how many of his arguments support representative democracy too, like “leave it to the expert” and “no time for political involvment”

should one conclude that representative democracy is a form of fascism?

Definitely, Yucca. There’s more to fascism than just authoritarianism, though.

Truly brilliant. Understated, well thought out. Works for every democracy … not just Australia’s.

Indeed. Seemed aimed at Bush’s America.

    I aim to please :)

Hey Ressentiment, I’ve finally been through most of the Anna Baltzer links you and Ann have put up. She’s a brave and inspiring woman (and Issa Suf’s letter to his attackers is equally amazing) but I have to say, I don’t like Ben Hein’s painting of her.

Paying tribute to her and other “refuseniks”‘ courage and vision in what’s essentially a fascist society is definitely worthy, but the emaciated Palestinian in her arms? Seems a bit tasteless, a bit objectifying/patronising to the Palestinians don’t you think? Apparently it’s a Michaelangelo reference, but to an uncultured swine like me it resonates more with the British propaganda of a century ago, with Britannia personified as a female diety in a tunic before the scruffy wretches of the Third World.

It’s not a general critique of Hein’s work – by and large I second your comment on his blog – and it’s definitely not a put-down of Anna, but I couldn’t help but question the composition of the picture. Apart from anything else, it seemed to undermine the importance of her role as a witness – something very different to being a saviour, but also very important in resisting fascism.

    What do you think?

  13. August 7, 2007 at 12:35 am

    Awesome. Just awesome.

It is indeed a joke. It’s from a DVD collection of short films called “Time to go John” that was released in Australia, against John Howard.

You can watch the rest of the films from the DVD on its website at http://www.timetogojohn.com/

Some are pretty funny, some are trash.
